Day 12

Tuesday 5/25      Today Julia and I wrapped up our work in admissions. We went over this morning and met with Alicia to discuss our last day. Today we made the bio profiles that will be posted on instagram f the GreenKey Reps and Student leaders. In these bios it says their grade, hometown, sport they play in the fall, a fun fact, and what they are doing this summer. Later this week these questions will be sent out to new students and Alicia will make their bio and post them to the instagram. It is crazy this is our last day in admissions the time seems to have flown by. Todays Hours: 4

Day 11

Monday 5/24      It is hard to believe these are our last two days in admissions. The time seems to have flown by. The last goal of our project is to connect with the incoming students next year. We are going to create an instagram and post brief bios about all of the students. Today we created a google form for them to fill out. We also sent this form out to the GreenKey Reps as well as the student leaders. We are planing on posting their bios first before the new students ones. This will be a great resource for new students to connect with each other before starting school in the fall. Todays Hours:4

Week 2 Reflection

Week 2 Reflection This week in admissions was very interesting. We continued to learn about the jobs of admissions officers and work towards completing the GreenKey System. Again this week Julia and I were very organized in how we decided to spend our time. On Monday we spent most of the day scheduling for the week. This week the main goal was to choose who the GreenKey reps for next year would be.  This process involved students filling out applications, and then Alica selected students to come in to be interviewed. Julia and I had both never interviewed anyone before, so we were nervous going into the interviews. Alicia was helpful giving us tips on how to conduct a good interview. She told us not to focus too much on scripted questions, and to think of it as a conversation. All of our interviews went very well. We had a surprising amount of interest, and after 40 applications we interviewed 20 students, and selected 12. It was difficult to  give interviews over and over again, o

Day 10

Friday 5/21      It is hard to believe it is the end of our second week working in admissions. This week actually went by very quickly. Today we wrapped up our work with the GreenKey System, Alicia made final decisions about next years Reps. We scheduled emails to be sent out announcing the news. Today we finished off our week having lunch in admissions, that Alicia kindly brought us from tuckers. Todays Hours: 4

Day 9

Thursday 5/20      Today I started my morning by getting coffee at the Bluebird Bakery and then heading over to admissions. In admissions Julia and I conducted more interviews. This process has been difficult as we have many applicants to narrow down, and we have had to interview many students. After doing a few interviews in the morning we went to a senior seminar lecture. Today we ended the day discussing with Alicia who the GreenKey Reps are going to be for next year. Tomorrow we will make final decisions and wrap up our work on the Green Key System. Todays Hours: 4

Day 8

Image
Wednesday 5/19 This morning I got up very early and hiked to the bulkhead with friends to see the sunrise. After I went to admission for another day of interview wing more students. Todays interviews are mostly new students who because of Covid have never given tours before. These interviews we spend more time getting to know the student and their interests. Most sophomores and all of the freshman have never given tours before because of Covid, so we will need to select students who have not given tours before however the GreenKey Reps do not only give tours. Being a GreenKey rep also involves knowing student in your grade well, being able to pair prospective families with current students, as well as encourage students to give tours.   Todays Hours: 4

Day 7

Image
Tuesday 5/18      Today was our fist day of interviews. I was honestly a little nervous about interviewing students however it went really well. I took Alicias advise to make it be more of a conversation. We interviewed 11 kids which was very tiring, however everyone was very interesting and had good answers to our questions. We asked them what they really liked about Proctor and what they think is important to highlight on a tour.   Then we talked more about the responsibilities of being a GreenKey Rep. It is going to be difficult narrowing down all of the candidates however I there are many students who are very excited to be involved in the program with is good. Todays Hours: 4

Day 6

Monday 5/17      Today was the first day of our second week, last week we accomplished a lot and both Julia and I are very excited to be moving forward. The next step of our project is selecting GreenKey Reps for next year. We are working closely with Alicia on this as these students will have important roles In the tour guide system next year. Today Alicia, Julia, and I read through all of the applications and then we worked on scheduling interviews.   This process filled most of our time and we plan for the rest of this week to conduct the interviews. Todays Hours: 4

Week 1 Reflection

Week 1 Reflection This week was a great start to my senior project. I have really enjoyed the time I spent in the admissions office. It is always interesting learning more about how this office works and all of the integral tasks they complete to contribute to the Proctor Community. This week Alicia provided us with a brief overview of what everyone in the office does. The spring is definitely the less busy time for the office, because there are not many visiting families and no student applications to review. Next week I am interested in finding out more about Alicia's role in admitting students and how that process works behind the scenes. In the spring however admissions is working on coordinating a lot with accepted students and students who have already committed to the school. They also are anticipating any changes happening at the school and how that will affect students. Julia and I have spent about half of our time being in the office. It has been interesting observing

Day 5

Image
Friday 5/14     Today is our third day of offering tour guide training sessions. Today we had three scheduled. It is getting a little repetitive walking around campus saying the same thing, however Julia and I have also noticed that we are getting better at what to say and keep thinking of more things we can talk about at each location on the tour. I am really enjoying being in the admissions office. Everyone is very nice and models an excellent work environment. It is also fun talking with Alicia about going to college and her path to ending up working in admissions. Alicia very kindly brought us lunch from the Kitchen today, because we were giving training sessions through lunch. It is hard to believe the first week of senior project is almost done it seems to have flown by. I am looking forward to next week, when we will be done giving mock tours and will began interviewing GreenKey Reps. Todays Hours: 4

Day 4

Thursday 5/13      This morning Julia and I began our day by getting coffee at the Bluebird Bakery. Next we went to the Sally B porch to plan out the day. First we finalized the application we would send out for GreenKey Reps next year. Then we practiced our assembly announcement we would make about applying for this position. We are looking for students who best represent the Proctor values and are willing to dedicate time to working with Alicia and other member of the Admissions Team. The GreenKey reps will next year will help schedule tours and match student tour guides with prospective families. This is an important step towards changing the tour guide system and the culture around it. After attending assembly we spent the rest of the day conducting tour guide training sessions. Todays Hours: 4

Day 3

Image
Wednesday  5/12 Julia and I started our day today getting coffee from the Keurig in admissions and talking about our plan for the day. Today we gave several mock tours, training student how to give a tour. Our first tour training we only had two people attend, however the third tour training we offered there were approximately fifteen kids. A lot of students said they enjoy learning fun facts we mention about Proctor. Things like Slocumb used to be a basket ball gym and that roughly 90% of students go on off campus programs. Offering these training sessions I think is very helpful, because of Covid many students have never given a tour before. Hours Today: 4

Day 2

Image
Tuesday   5/11           When arriving in admissions today, Julia and I began by looking at the responses to our google form for tour guide interest.   We revived 65 responses and organized responses by free block in a spreadsheet. Then we planned when we would be offering your guide training for each free block. The rest of the morning I spent writing a script for how to give a tour. On this script I summarized the important points to mention on a tour in each building. Working on this script made me realize the vast amount of opportunities   proctor has to offer. This projects makes me very grateful for my high school experience, the new things I have tried and the uniques aspects of Proctor. Todays Hours: 4

Day 1

Monday 5/10      Today was an exciting day starting my project working with admissions. First we had a brief tour of the admissions office, then went back to the conference room to talk with Alicia about the next 2 weeks. Julia and I are excited to primarily be reorganizing the GreenKey tour guide system. This year due to Covid families were not able to visit and go on tours with students. Hopefully next year tours will be back to some kind of normal, as they are a very important aspect of perspective student's experience with the school. We will be training tour guides for next year and finding students to be leaders run the program. Today we sent out an email with a form asking for students who are interested in giving tours. We are working on thinking of ways to revamp the idea of giving tours and encourage more student to be involved. The rest of today was spent scheduling and planing out our time in the weeks to come and how we will accomplish our goals. Todays Hours: 4
